Sarah Palin fanatics, take heart. Your per son of choice has no intention of going quietly. As we speak, she is gearing up. E-mails are currently going out to the favored faithful to help form a coalition. She is primed, ready and now forming a national organization called "Stand Up for Our Nation." Exactly what it's standing for is unclear. If not a chicken in every pot, maybe a heater in every igloo. A monogrammed puck for every hockey mom. Possibly, it'll start, "Give me your poor, your tired governors . . . " All that's known so far is, it's a Palinization of the political system. Her people will categorize it only as "to promote issues she's passionate about" -- other than how to do away with her unmarried daughter's babymaker, Levi Johnston.
You’ll remember Palin initially promised to cooperate with the legislature initiated Trooper-Gate investigation. But once she was picked as running mate for John McCain, she flipped flop. All of a sudden Palin launched an all out war on the legal process, trying to suppress subpoenas, obstructing justice, doing everything she could to thwart the investigation. A major operation was set up in the office of Anchorage attorney Thomas Van Flein.
According to the Daily News, Van Flein, would not give a case-by-case accounting of how Palin has incurred so much legal debt, saying "that type of breakdown is protected by the attorney-client privilege." Palin's personal spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton, did not respond to inquiries from the ADN about whether the governor would waive the privilege and release that information.
The Governor claims she has more than a half million dollars in legal bills because of all the ethics complaints. Kristan Cole, the trustee for Palin’s legal defense fund told the Daily News the bills are now more than $600,000. But Palin refuses to say how much of those legal bills come from fighting the Trooper-Gate investigation.
How much could it possibly cost to defend against ethics complaints the personnel board initially dismisses out of hand? Most of these complaints are so frivolous they never were going to amount to anything.
It is reasonable to believe that Governor Palin got herself into deep debt with legal bills almost solely because of her obstructing justice during the Trooper-Gate investigation and the complaint regarding the state paying for her kid’s travel. You’ll remember the governor eventually agreed to pay the money back for her kid's travel.
Sound familiar?

A recent article I read about President Obama opened with the line, “Barack Obama is looking for a church, but what religion is he?” Even though Americans seem to be asking that question frequently, a recent Gallup poll showed that 56 percent of weekly churchgoers thought Obama was doing a good job. So it would seem that denomination is not as important as perceived spirituality.
Here are some thoughts on the topic:
With Egypt facing seven years of eventual hard famine, Joseph carried out a plan:
Genesis 41: Joseph went out from Pharaoh’s presence and traveled throughout Egypt. During the seven years of abundance, the land produced plentifully. Joseph collected all the food produced in those seven years of abundance in Egypt and stored it in the cities. In each city he put the food grown in the fields surrounding it. Joseph stored up huge quantities of grain, like the sand of the sea; it was so much that he stopped keeping records because it was beyond measure. But Joseph seemingly forgot who actually owned the grain!
Genesis 41: 56 when the famine had spread over the whole country, Joseph opened the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe throughout Egypt. And what could the man on the street do?
Genesis 47:20 Joseph bought all the land in Egypt for Pharaoh. The Egyptians, one and all, sold their fields, because the famine was too severe for them. The land became Pharaoh’s and Joseph reduced the people to servitude, from one end of Egypt to the other.
Insult to injury, Joseph imposed a 20 percent flat tax. . . and the people submitted!
Genesis 47:23 Joseph said to the people, “Now that I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh, here is seed for you so you can plant the ground. But when the crop comes in, give a fifth of it to Pharaoh. The other four-fifths you may keep as seed for the fields and as food for yourselves and your households and your children. You have saved our lives,” they said. “May we find favor in the eyes of our lord; we will be slaves to Pharaoh.”
Does all this sound familiar?
STIMULUS: Palin makes Alaska the sole state to reject energy cost relief.
Legislative leaders say they appear to have enough votes to override Gov. Sarah Palin's veto of $28.6 million in federal stimulus money for energy cost relief. Alaska is the only state to have rejected these funds, and that's not sitting well.
"I would be surprised if we didn't override her," North Pole Republican Rep. John Coghill said Thursday.
Rep. Mike Hawker, another member of the legislative leadership, said that's his count too.
"This is just one of those cases where there is such a profound difference of opinion between the legislative branch of government and the executive branch," the Anchorage Republican said. "We could have one of those rare and difficult instances where we are actually able to override a governor's veto of an appropriation item."
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska's rank in a rating of states' ethics laws is declining, and stands at 40th.
The list comes from the Better Government Association, which ranked all the states based on the strength of their ethics laws as of 2008.
The association says the strongest ethics laws are in New Jersey, followed by Rhode Island, Hawaii, Washington state and Louisiana.
The Better Government Association also did the ranking in 2002. Alaska was ranked 23rd then.

Integrity of Governor Palin's Office Up for Sale
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, April 27, 2009 - Eagle river resident Kim Chatman has filed an ethics complaint against Governor Palin for creating a legal defense fund for the Palins and state officials. Chatman charges that this fund violates the sections of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act which address conflicts of interests that are substantial and material:
Sec. 39.52.120. Misuse of official position
(a) A public officer may not use, or attempt to use, an official position for personal gain, and may not intentionally secure or grant unwarranted benefits or treatment for any person.
Sec. 39.52.130. Improper gifts
A public officer may not solicit, accept, or receive, directly or indirectly, a gift, whether in the form of money, ...that is a benefit to the officer's personal or financial interests, under circumstances in which it could reasonably be inferred that the gift is intended to influence the performance of official duties, actions, or judgment.
"First off, I find it offensive that they're calling it the Alaska Fund Trust," Kim Chatman said. "It is deceptive, misleading and has absolutely nothing to do with either trust or Alaska ."
Chatman believes that Gov. Palin's legal bills are the direct result of Gov. Palin's actions. "It's time for her to accept responsibility for the manner in which she decided to handle the legislative council investigation." Chatman says. "She could have cooperated like she promised. Instead, Governor Palin chose to fight it and incur legal bills."
Chatman has further concerns. "With 20 months remaining in the governor's term, this contrived money scheme leaves a lot of room for people to buy favors from Palin and her cronies," Chatman says. "And what about all these other state officials involved in this plot. Aren't they in violation of the Ethics Act too?"
